As guide after guide will tell you, not only was the Epulias of the Roman empire the residential suburb of Fréjus, above all it was a centre for festivities… in Latin, Epulias means “Feasts”!
Visitors take note: “Saint Raph” knows how to live, and the life here is more than good. Turned into a seaside resort, with the emergence of the railway in the mid-19th century, it has remained a preferred holiday and leisure destination.

Fabulous coastline

Its attractions are as numerous as they are undeniable. Chief among them? 42 kilometres of coast sheltering around thirty beaches, shaded shores, creeks and rocky inlets. An incredibly mild climate, which inspired Charles Gounod to write an opera, Romeo et Juliette, and an Ave Maria, and which served as the backdrop for Fitzgerald while he was writing Tender is the Night, soothed by the surf…
And nowadays? To the present day, “Saint Raph” – with its Palladian villas, Belle Epoque casino, lively promenade and, in the background, the rocks of l’Estérel – has retained all its power of attraction.
