The traditional capital of the French region of Vexin is a land rich with history. The history of France, there to be discovered by chance in the narrow streets of the old city; the history of artists painting on the banks of the Oise; the history of fairs, such as the one dedicated to Saint Martin, the largest and longest-established in the Ile de France region (837th year in 2007!). There’s even a tribute to all the love stories that marked this romantic city’s history, the famous Fontaine d’Amour! In fact, Pontoise proudly wears the label “City of art and history”, and that just about says it all.
But Pontoise is also a city clearly focused on the future: in addition to its excellent leisure establishments, two high schools, three middle schools, 11 school groups and a family child care center are on hand to welcome the younger members of society. Then there are the many corporations that have established their head office here, persuaded by the location’s dynamism. A very reliable sign!
