157 Avenue de Montredon was the venue for some of the wildest parties of France’s Second Empire. During the occupation, the owner, Countess Pastré, organized shows and concerts there, protesting in her own way against the occupation. That’s the history behind one of the most beautiful jewels of the local heritage, given by the Countess’s heirs to the City of Marseille in 1974. This immense park is still called "la Campagne Pastré" by the locals.
Musée de la Faïence
At the end of the park is the chateau. A magnificent 19th century country house, it has recovered its lustre and been transformed into the Musée de la Faïence. The collections bring together over 1,500 fine ceramic pieces, from the Neolithic period to the present day. Between the end of the 17th and the 18th century, Marseille was a major pottery-making centre. This museum makes it possible to appreciate the talent that contributed to its renown, and that of other Provencal centres of production, such as Moustiers, Apt and Castellet.
